By Caysi Johnson, Butler Intercollegiate YMCA Vice President Three subway rides, two ferry boat rides, two bus rides and a 12 hour car ride have been our transports so far. Each channel has had a different experience with the same people. Watching the cityscape get smaller and smaller only makes me more excited to create new memories with these six people I've come to know. As we leave Manhattan, I can't help but feel excited for our days in Queens with the Warmington family.
By Taylor Jade Powell, president of Butler Intercollegiate YMCA On Day 1 of our Fall NYC Service Trip 2015, we spent 11 or so hours traveling from Indianapolis, IN to Staten Island, NY. The car ride was filled with Double-Stacked Oreos, 90s music, Starbucks stops and sleepiness. We arrived at Calvary Presbyterian Church around 9pm, and were welcomed with open arms into its Volunteer Village. After a quick debrief, our small group of seven headed to bed in preparation of our first day of work with Friends of Rockaway. |
